You couldn’t imagine a more tantalising pairing if you tried, the legendary KLF have submitted their classic “What Time Is Love” over to the master of minimal percussive funk…and it works a treat. The KLF have, of course, been subjected to endless bootleg re-workings and pointless cover versions, but this is something totally different, the source material deconstructed and painstakingly reworked by Villalobos in a manner that not only reiterates the man’s peerless club instincts but his respect for the most bizzarre and thought provoking “dance” project of the last 15 years. Two mixes feature, the vocal reduced to a subliminal echo that sinks itself into over 10 minutes of bass heavy bliss. This is the first in a series of KLF remix twelves that will eventually feature 16 artists reworking KLF classics, all to be eventually housed in an extremely limited collectors box.
